Jacobsen So you've had a brief conversation with someone whose ad you answered and in the process they gave you their phone number. Or maybe you met at a Connections party or other singles event, or in the grocery store, for that matter; they gave you their number and said "Call me sometime." You don't absolutely have to call every person you ever got a phone number for; sometimes you didn't especially want the number in the first place. But what about the times when you WANTED to call, but factors such as being busy and/or being chicken in terfered? Then suddenly you realize that it's been so long that if you call now, they may not remember who you are. One single fellow insists that you must call a new number within three days. There is no need to make a date or any other future plans. The call can simply acknowledge having met-"I just called to say hi and that it was nice to meet you at the party." Or "Enjoyed our phone conversation the other night." Then, says this experienced single, you can wait months to call again without a major problem (assuming they haven't fallen in love in the mean time). But never wait months to call the FIRST time. The notion that you should only call when you're ready to make a date is a stumbling block for a lot of singles, and it makes no sense. In fact, your phone conversations are actually "mini-dates," since dating is about getting acquainted and those telephone talks are helping you get to know each other. And by calling "just to chat," you let the other person know that it's ok to call YOU to talk, without any pressure to plan dates. If your phone conversations have come about through a personal ad, and one party suggests a date on the very first phone call, don't feel pressured to make a decision about the person right then. You can say, "I'd like to have a couple more phone conversations before we actually meet." But you must call them again soon if you want them to still be interested and available. ************************ Singles Site of the Week - You can be a world traveler, right at your computer screen, with the site that sequentially accesses live "action cams" around the world. You can even use as a "screen-saver," since the view changes every 20 seconds or so. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Advice from Aunt Janet -- PRACTICE DATE! Cody Williams, of Prescott, Arizona, decided after his divorce that he really didn't know enough about dating and women, so for one year he dated a different woman each week -- 52 women in 52 weeks. The key point of his approach was to explain to each woman that it wouldn't be a REAL date, just a practice date. And there would be no "hanky-panky" and he probably wouldn 't be able to ask her out again for quite a while. Aunt Janet knows plenty of folks who probably date MORE than 52 people in a year, but they don't learn from it like Cody did, because instead of seeing every date as an exciting learning experience (like Cody did) they see every date where they don't fall in love, as a "failure." If your social life isn't going all that well, take the "Cody Williams pledge" and just "practice date" for a while! ************************* ALL SINGLES DANCE SCHEDULE: October 13 Scottsdale Radisson, 7171 N.
