American Demographics magazine reports that 84.2% of Americans "spruce up" their homes for the holidays, with 65% of us hanging Christmas stockings and 42% posting mistletoe on the premises. More than half (54%) of the folks who put up a Christmas tree use an artificial version. About 85% of us send holiday cards, a total 2.7 billion of them, with the average person sending 38 cards. Some 86% of us would rather spend the holiday at home than on a vacation, and 71% of Americans will attend religious services over the holidays. Three out of four families open their Christmas presents on Christmas Day -- the other 25% hit the gifts Christmas Eve. Dining out alone is looking up. Singles dining out alone are getting better treatment in restaurants these days, according to a recent article in the Las Vegas Review Journal. Singles make up 47% of the Vegas population, and are also a significant portion of visitors there, so a person dining alone is common these days, much more so than even five years ago, says one restauranteur. Some restaurants, such as Aureole at the Mandalay Bay resort, offer communal tables; dining in the lounge or at the bar is popular with singles in some establishments, but many singles are comfortable with a table for one. Single diners now represent too large a segment for restaurants to ignore, and some restaurants even consider it a compliment to their food and service when customers are comfortable dining alone. Unsafe to leave your keys during car repairs. There was a report recently of a woman assaulted in her home by a man who worked at the repair shop where she left her car; he had taken her house key and had a duplicate made before her car was returned. Keep your house and car keys on separate rings, or have an extra car key to leave at the auto shop. Jaggers get the "perfect" divorce. Model Jerry Hall, now ex-wife of rock star Mick Jagger, says in a London society magazine that she is very glad to be divorced. "He just behaved too, too, too badly too many times," including, apparently, a recent affair with a Brazilian model. Still, it's the perfect divorce, says Hall, because she and Jagger are "still such good friends, and I am very happy with the end result. He has been very, very generous to me." Child support collector plans national ad campaign. Advertising Age magazine reports that Supportkids.com, the company previously known as Child Support Enforcement, will run a national tv ad campaign this winter to promote their services. The eight-year-old company takes only cases involving a court-ordered judgment, for people not on welfare who are owed more than $5,000, and charges 34% of the amount owed. Worried about computer viruses? Rather than send text material as an attachment to an e-mail file, include it in your basic e-mail message, and encourage your friends and associates to do the same; regular text e-mail is "safer" from viruses than attachments. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Interactive Arizona Map at Single Scene Site Check out our interactive Arizona map at You can click on the city you want to know about and get information and links, plus photos and information on any local singles clubs.
