Jacobsen How much money to spend on a first date is a highly emotional issue for a lot of people. Some men think that women will only want to date them if every date is a lavish experience. Some men wonder whether the woman is really interested in THEM, or just in a free dinner. And many women worry, "What exactly does he expect for all this money he's spending?" Granted, men and women of obvious means who issue invitations only for cheap dates will soon be known by that label. But not all singles have lavish finances, and many singles realize that the first date is not the appropriate time to be flashing it around even if they have it. Still, that doesn't mean a first date has to be restricted to lunch or coffee to be both acceptable and non-threatening. Here are some other possibilities, which you can use individually or in combination: ~Take a leisurely stroll through a public garden. ~Go to a lake and feed the ducks. (Take bread with you.) ~Walk around at a fancy hotel or resort; have coffee or dessert. ~Browse in book stores. ~Attend an auction. ~Attend a lecture at a local college or library. ~Visit a museum. ~Visit art galleries. ~Attend a revival meeting. ~Rent a bicycle-built-for-two. ~Go ice skating. ~Go rollerskating at a rink. ~Go street skating. ~Go bowling. ~Go sledding. ~Hit golf balls at a driving range. ~Go boating - rent a canoe or paddle boat in a park. ~Tour a historic site. ~Shop at a farmers market. ~Take a free dance lesson in a nightclub. ~Take a folk dance lesson at a community center. ~Fly kites; make your own! ~Pack a picnic lunch and visit a park. ~Have a milk shake at a soda fountain. *********************** SHARE WITH A FRIEND-- PLEASE FORWARD THIS ISSUE ! ---------------------------------------------- If you haven't already done so, please forward this issue to your single friends and associates. By that time the company events are over, busy teachers and students are on break, and many folks are actually LOOKING for things to do. Plus the most popular New Year's resolution for singles is to get out and meet more people, so your party will be just the thing to get them started. Don't wait til the last minute, though -- announce your party as early as possible. Give them something to look forward to!! ************************* Web Site of the Week Looking for the perfect quote? Maybe you need a wonderful phrase for your Christmas letter.
